Who I Am

Experienced IT Systems Administrator and Manager who went from Student Researcher to Intern to Manager in the span of 5 years. My time at rapidly growing startups has taught me about a wide array of IT systems and how they can be properly configured to provide maximal value to the business. I know the value of good documentation, rapid communication, and pragmatic goal-setting. I have worked under both lean and fat budgets, with differing management styles. I know the value of scalable open source services, the pitfalls of SaaS tool churn, and the need for responsive and auditable security. I have dealt with business continuity problems in the form of chip shortages, Texan ice storms, CloudFlare DNS outages, the COVID work-from-home exodus and subsequent return-to-work.

Sofar Ocean Technologies / Systems Administrator, IT

  • Managed +$250k of annual SaaS spend, handling vendor management and cost optimization efforts.
  • Enrolled +100 endpoints (Sofar is small yet mighty!), into JAMF MDM and Protect products to our fleet.
  • Consolidated SaaS tooling and migrated from Lastpass to 1Password, Dropbox to Google Drive, GoDaddy to AWS.
  • Utilized Fivetran, Snowflake, and Google Data Studio to create a makeshift FP&A system for Quickbooks, helping the senior staff manage their spend.
  • Migrated our manufacturing workstations from Intel Macs to Ubuntu NUCs using Ansible
  • Led a hackathon project to move our hardware log data from Dropbox to an S3 bucket, and then into a dashboard to automate a manual production task.
  • Implemented and enforced MFA across the org, including Google Workspace, AWS IAM Identity Center, Github.
  • Scoped a CUI Enclave to enable Sofar to apply for US Gov contracts and trained our staff how to use it.
  • Managed networking with Meraki hardware, setup VLANs, tuned APs, and created PagerDuty hooks for outages (Management chose MonkeyBrains WISP as our primary WAN due to cost and we lost one of our nines).
  • Assisted in IT buildout of new office space, planning and installing network infrastructure, access control systems, KPI dashboards, and zoom room setups for 8 conference rooms and an all hands space. Survived the chip shortage by repurposing older HP switches kindly provided to us by maintaining a good relationship with the prior tenant during the move process.
  • Performed A/V setup and operation on quick notice and lean budget for company all hands events, product launches, and events. Utilized NDI tools to quickly create flexible presentation spaces with rolling displays and camera tripods.

REX Real Estate / Manager, IT

September 2016 - September 2021, San Francisco, CA
  • Performed vendor management for up to 93 providers with a combined total spend of $2.3M.
  • Recruited and ran a lean IT support team of three sysadmins at a 1:125 staff to employee ratio, taking the company from 15 staff to 400+ staff at an aggressive growth rate of 3% per week at hiring’s peak.
  • Managed and deployed a mixed fleet of 823 MacOS/iOS devices and 74 Windows devices across all CONUS time zones, 5 company divisions, each with different business needs.
  • Implemented core IT services such as ticketing queues, pager rotation schedules, remote configuration management, DMARC, password management, and SSO as the company grew to a size requisite to require them.
  • Registered, consolidated, and managed 295 domains.
  • Setup, configured, and managed cloud PBX services and call queues for sales and IT.
  • Helped perform change management and migrations from Exchange to GSuite, Dropbox to Google Drive, Insightly to Salesforce, Docusign to HelloSign, GoDaddy to Route53, RingCentral to Zoom Phone, and JAMF to Meraki SM (oops).
  • Managed networking, printing, security, and access control infrastructure for REX’s three offices.
  • Wrote and used python scripts to automate basic IT management tasks with Zoom and GSuite.
